Californian rock icons Stone Temple Pilots will return to Australia in a big way next year, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their chart-topping, multi-platinum sophomore album Purple.
Fronted by The X Factor star and former Dry Cell singer Jeff Gutt since 2017, the grunge pioneers will perform the Scott Weiland-era LP in its entirety at headline shows in Sydney, Adelaide, Newcastle and Brisbane in February and March of 2025, alongside their slot at the twin Hello Sunshine festival legs in Melbourne and the Gold Coast (peep that full lineup here).

What’s more, STP will be joined at all their headline dates by Australia’s own homegrown rock royals, Wolfmother.
Stone Temple Pilots’ second studio album Purple was released on June 7, 1994, following the massive success of their debut LP Core, which sold over eight million copies and earned the band a GRAMMY Award.
Purple debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, solidifying the band’s position in rock music history. The album houses a bunch of the group’s most popular tracks, including ‘Interstate Love Song’ (stream above) and ‘Vasoline’, while another standout track ‘Big Empty’ first appeared on the soundtrack for the iconic film The Crow and went on to become a Top 10 hit, also scooping an MTV Movie Award for ‘Best Song in a Movie’.

Elsewhere, a new movie is in the works, based on the tragic and turbulent life of the band’s late frontman Scott Weiland, who died in 2015 following an accidental drug overdose.
The biopic will be based on 2011 New York Times best-selling memoir Not Dead & Not For Sale, after production house Dark Pictures acquired the book rights. More details on that here.
