Soft Cell have announced a tour of Australia for April 2025 – their first ever, 46 years after they originally formed. The Leeds synthpop duo will belatedly celebrate the 40th anniversary of their debut studio album, 1981’s Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, by performing the record in its entirety. The full list of tour dates, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be found below.

“I have always wanted to go to Australia,” said the group’s vocalist Marc Almond in a press statement. “Over my 45-year career (yes, that long), fans have always asked me when it might happen, so [I’m] overjoyed to say that it is happening.” Almond will pull double duty during the Australian tour, opening each show by himself and performing songs from his solo career.

“To perform both as Marc Almond and then transform into Soft Cell on the same night will be another first,” he added. “Everyone tells me Australians love to party, and it promises to be something very special.”

Soft Cell – ‘Tainted Love’

Soft Cell was formed by Almond and keyboardist/producer David Ball in 1978. In 1981, they released a cover of ‘Tainted Love’ – a song written by Ed Cobb and originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1965. Soft Cell’s cover has gone on to largely be considered the definitive version of the song, becoming one of the biggest hits of the decade – going triple platinum in the UK, topping the charts in six countries, reaching the top five in a further eight and reaching the top 10 in the US and the Netherlands. The group split up in 1984 but reunited in 2000, splitting again in 2005 only to reunite circa 2018. Their fifth studio album, Happiness Not Included, was released in 2022.
