Sierra Ferrell brought her new album Trail of Flowers to Grand Rapids, MI on Friday for a fitting, sold-out show at Frederik Meijer Gardens Amphitheater. The stop on the singer-songwriter’s Shoot For the Moon Tour featured support from Meredith Axelrod and a relevant cover of Tim O’Brien‘s “The Garden”.

Ferrell is currently out on the road supporting her fourth album, which dropped back in March. The new disc made up nearly half of the 21-song setlist, with ten of the album’s 12 songs appearing in Grand Rapids. From opener “I Could Drive You Crazy” to the trio of “American Dreaming”, “Dollar Bill Bar”, and “Fox Hunt” that closed the show (and opened the album in the same order), Ferrell put on full display her unique style that bridges old-time bluegrass, classic country, ragtime, and much more into something new yet inherently familiar.

Along with her growing catalog of originals, Ferrell honored some of her inspirations with some choice covers. Ferrell nodded to bluegrass forefather Fiddlin’ Arthur Smith with “Chittlin’ Cookin’ Time in Cheatham County” and the aforementioned Tim O’Brien cover. Sierra Ferrell also gave The Osborne Brothers their flowers as she performed in the bucolic garden, in addition to her staple rendition of Kris Kristofferson‘ “Me and Bobby McGee”. To start the two-song encore, Ferrell recalled her contribution to the 2022 John Anderson tribute album Something Borrowed, Something New with her standout cover of “Years” before “In Dreams” closed the show.
