Goose visited The Armory in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday where the band dug into its cache of jams to deliver a four-song second set. The improv-heavy show came as part of the band’s ongoing fall tour currently marching toward the West Coast.

Following a three-night stay at The Salt Shed in Chicago which featured a guest appearance by revered jazz guitarist Julian Lage, Goose arrived in Minneapolis for a one-night stopover. Saturday’s first set was a much more song-heavy affair, with Goose stitching together “Dr. Darkness” and “The Whales” to start the show ahead of the band’s sixth-ever performance of Echo & The Bunnymen‘s 1984 U.K. hit “The Killing Moon”. Spring 2023 addition “Feel it Now” kept the first frame moving before both parts of “Seekers on the Ridge” and “Animal” brought set one to a satisfying close.

For set two, Goose took the plunge with a brooding 20-minute “Creatures” that set the tone for the concert’s back nine. Another ’80s hit, Peter Gabriel‘s “In Your Eyes”, brought the band out of the darkness of the preceding “Creatures”, offering a singalong respite before Goose dove back in with “Drive”. The set’s second 20-minute jam, “Drive” took its time to develop as Cotter Ellis‘ snare pitter-patter ironed out a crease in the groove for Rick Mitarotonda‘s silky six-string to fold with neat, ascending guitar patterns.

Finally, it was the sonic cleansing of “Hungersite” that closed out the set with one more outsized bit of improv, taking the song to the 18-minute mark. Taking The Armory stage one more time, Goose closed out the show with the serene “Everything Must Go” and finally an abridged “Hot Tea” to come in just under the venue’s curfew.
