L.A.-based funk-rock-soul quintet The Main Squeeze has released a new video, Live From The Mojave Desert, in which the band performs a full set of new material against a stunning natural backdrop as the sun sets over the Tehachapi Mountains.
As the band explained in a social media post, “In the blistering sun, we set up a stage and a fully functioning recording studio in the back of a cargo truck. After surviving some truly epic winds that almost took out the entire stage, we began playing and filming a full set of music, knowing that we only had time for one take before the Sun set. … We played eight brand new songs that have never been performed live before, and with the help of an amazing crew, we captured a special moment in time.”
The sweeping drone shots lend a fitting air of grandeur to the stark but beautiful expanses behind Corey Frye (vocals, keys), Ben “Smiley” Silverstein (keys, keytar), Maximillian Newman (guitar), Reuben Gingrich (drums), and Rob “Skywalker” Walker (bass, keys, vocals) as they perform. The powerful visuals align perfectly with the dreamy, immersive sonics of the new material, which winds its way from enveloping R&B (“Endorphins”) to robotic fever-blues (“Acid Blues”) to billowing layers of angelic ambiance (“Forever Feel”) to keytar/guitar catharsis (“Descent”) within the scope of the group’s highly skilled funk-rock sound.
