The Disco Biscuits Welcomes Eric ‘Benny’ Bloom In New Orleans: Full Show Pro-Shot Video

166

The Disco Biscuits returned to New Orleans on Friday, 11 years to the day they had last played the city to begin a two-night stand at The Fillmore. The jamtronica pioneers teamed with Lettuce trumpeter Eric ‘Benny’ Bloom for a pair of songs that included their first take on”Afro Blue” in 15+ years during their first show in the Crescent City in over a decade.

The quartet celebrated their return to The Big Easy by digging in on a lengthy seamless stretch going with back-to-back rarities to get things going. “Triumph” was used as a launching pad to get their night off the ground as the Señor Boombox track was offered up for just the ninth time since 2013. “Minions,” which hasn’t been played more than twice in a year since 2011, followed. An inverted take on setlist staple “Save The Robots” followed as they returned back to “Triumph” with Bloom emerging next. With the trumpeter in tow, The Disco Biscuits busted out the jazz standard “Afro Blue.” The Mongo Santamaría composition had been sitting untouched since January 12, 2004 – a span of 705 shows. Bloom then stuck around for a set-closing take on “Mulberry’s Dream.”

The Philadelphia-birthed act opened up the second frame of the night by delivering the debut of a brand new original entitled “That Sample Has A Name.” Then, “The Great Abyss” and “Tempest” were sandwiched in between an exploratory take on “Caterpillar.” The band would then drop an inverted “Munchkin Invasion” in the midst of “Helicopters” to bring the stanza to an end. The Disco Biscuit would look to one more rarity for their lone encore nodding to a local delicacy by playing “Frog Legs” for just the third time in three years. Watch full show pro-shot video below:
