Dopapod began a hiatus that lasted over a year with a performance at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club on December 31, 2017. The band returned to the venue for shows earlier this month on December 13 and 14. Dopapod unveiled pro-shot video of the entire finale in time for this week’s Full Show Friday column.
Guitarist Rob Compa admitted that the future of Dopapod was unclear when they embarked on the hiatus and there was no guarantee the band would indeed return. “[Yet], here we are tonight with all you guys two years later, so here’s a special tune for you to make you feel good about life,” Compa exclaimed before the quartet served up a debut cover of Joe Walsh‘s “Life’s Been Good” as the penultimate song of a first set that also included well-jammed versions of “French Bowling,” “Trapper Keeper” and “Sonic” as well as takes on “Live In The Dream” and “Give It A Name.”
Dopapod began their final set in Boston by pairing “Dracula’s Monk and “23 Forever.” The four-piece then offered a nearly 30-minute sequence of “Bats In The Cave” and “Grow.” The latter tune gave way to the “Donkey Kong Theme.” For the encore, Dopapod treated fans to an expansive rendition of “Freight Train.”
