Robyn Hitchcock & Dave Schramm Join Yo La Tengo In New York City

161

On Saturday, Yo La Tengo held the penultimate show of their 8 Nights Of Hanukkah residency at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom. The band once again welcomed special guests in the form of sit-ins by former member Dave Schramm and singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock.

Night seven’s bill also included comedian Matt Walsh and a set by Snail Mail. Schramm, who was Yo La Tengo’s original guitarist and appeared on their 1990 album Fakebook and 2015’s Stuff Like That There, came out during the group’s main set to augment “The Race Is On Again.” The guest guitarist remained for the YLT classics, “Pablo And Andrea,” “Season Of The Shark” and “From Black To Blue.”

Hitchcock was onstage for the entire encore, which started with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window.” Lou Reed’s “Kill Your Sons” came next, followed by a cover of The Cramps’ “Drug Train.” Hitchcock then led takes on his “I Wanna Destroy You” and the show-ending “Love.” Yo La Tengo’s final Hanukkah show takes place tonight (Sunday, December 29) at The Bowery Ballroom.
