A previously unreleased Miles Davis recording, “Hail To The Real Chief,” was released by Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings. The song is part of the Music From and Inspired by “Miles Davis: Birth Of The Cool” soundtrack album.
Stanley Nelson directed the 2019 documentary film, Miles Davis: Birth Of The Cool. “Hail To The Real Chief” was constructed from unused recordings of Davis playing trumpet that were combined with music composed by Lenny White. Former members of Davis’ backing groups contributed to the track, including White, Vince Wilburn Jr., Marcus Miller, Emilio Modeste, Jeremy Pelt, Antoine Roney, John Scofield, Bernard Wright and Quinton Zoto. Featuring commentary from Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Wayne Shorter and others, the 28-track Music From and Inspired by “Miles Davis: Birth Of The Cool” will be released on February 21.
