Gimme Shelter In Place: Dead Winter Carpenters Perform ‘Sun Don’t Shine’

145

Gimme Shelter In Place is JamBase’s new daily archival video series launched for fans who right now can’t go see live music. Canceled concerts and music festivals due to social distancing and sheltering in place in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic brought a halt to tours around the globe. We know nothing can truly replace seeing live music in person, but we hope the Gimme Shelter In Place live videos provide a taste of those memorable experiences.

We continue to dig into our collection of outtakes from our 2015 Songs Of Their Own Grateful Dead 50th anniversary video series with a performance by Dead Winter Carpenters. Their contribution to that project was cover of the Dead classic “Friend Of The Devil,” which was recorded at JamBase’s former office in San Francisco. That afternoon’s session was not restricted to just the Grateful Dead cover as the North Tahoe natives also recorded their original, “Sun Don’t Shine.”

Back in the Spring of 2015, DWC were passing through SF on their way to a gig in Santa Cruz when they stopped at JB HQ. They parked their trusty tour bus “Suds” in front of the office and soon were at work arranging their version of “Friend Of The Devil.” After rehearsing in the kitchen and tricky rearranging of furniture in the office, the band set up and got to work covering the Dead. They then treated JB staff to live performance of their song, “Sun Don’t Shine,” which appeared on their self-titled 2010 debut studio album.

Watch Dead Winter Carpenters performance of “Sun Don’t Shine” and all of the Gimme Shelter In Place videos in the playlist below:

Stay tuned as we share a new Gimme Shelter In Place live performance video every weekday for the foreseeable future.
