Gimme Shelter In Place: Reed Mathis & Cochrane McMillan Cover ‘Loser’

161

Gimme Shelter In Place is JamBase’s archival video series launched for fans who right now can’t go see live music. Canceled concerts and music festivals due to social distancing and sheltering in place in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic brought a halt to tours around the globe. We know nothing can truly replace seeing live music in person, but we hope the Gimme Shelter In Place live videos provide a taste of those memorable experiences.

We’re once again pulling from the JamBase archival footage of former Tea Leaf Green band mates, multi-instrumentalist Reed Mathis and percussionist Cochrane McMillan. Back in 2015, the pair participated in JamBase’s Songs Of Their Own Grateful Dead 50th anniversary video series, adding their cover of “Deal.”

Our previous Gimme Shelter In Place video featuring Reed and Cochrane was an outtake from the Songs Of Their Own session of their cover of “He’s Gone.” Back again with another classic from the Dead’s repertoire, this outtake from the same session held at JamBase’s former San Francisco location is of their arrangement of another Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter classic, “Loser.”

While sheltering in place a few weeks ago, Reed teleconferenced with JamBase CEO David Onigman about his livestreams, performing with Billy & The Kids, the Songs Of Their Own session and more, here’s their chat:
