On Thursday night, Umphrey’s McGee kicked off their southeast run at the House of Blues in Orlando, Florida. The two-set show was highlighted by a special guest collaboration with Roosevelt Collier, a rare take on “Jekyll & Hyde”, covers of The Beatles and Steely Dan, and a 19+ minute “Utopian Fir” that included a tribute to Aretha Franklin, who passed away yesterday.

The band kicked off the first set with a major rarity, “Jekyll & Hyde”, which had not been played since July of 2017 at the Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park in Indianapolis, IN and has only been performed seventeen times since its debut in 2011. From there, the band transitioned into Similar Skin‘s “Room To Breathe”. Next up was 1998’s “Much Obliged” into 2018’s “Triangle Tear” jam, showcasing the band’s vast catalog and their intense level of skill and precision. Pedal steel guitar player Roosevelt Collier joined the Chicago rockers to close out the first set with Umphrey’s reliable “Syncopated Strangers” and a stunning cover of The Beatles‘ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”.

For their second set, Umphrey’s McGee jammed their way through “Wappy Sprayberry” and into a cover of Steely Dan’s “Hey Nineteen”, a song that’s been performed by the band 84 times since 1999, but only five times since 2015. “Rocker Part 2” came in the third song slot, leading into a 19+ minute “Utopian Fir” that featured a quick nod to Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”. The second set concluded with it’s not us‘s “Looks” and Anchor Drop‘s “Wife Soup”. For the encore, the band landed on fan-favorite “In The Kitchen”.
