Elvis Costello & The Imposters Share New Single ‘Suspect My Tears’

Elvis Costello regrouped The Imposters in the studio for the first time since 2008’s Momofuku to record a new album entitled Look Now. Costello & The Imposters recently shared the ballad “Suspect My Tears” from their forthcoming LP, which is due via Concord Records on October 12.

Producer Sebastian Krys recorded “Suspect My Tears” in Los Angeles. Costello and his band of keyboardist Steve Nieve, bassist Davey Faragher and drummer Pete Thomas are joined on the track by jazz-bassoonist Michael Rabinowitz and vocalists Kitten Kuroi and Brianna Lee.

Elvis oversaw a string session for “Suspect My Tears” at New York City’s famed Electric Lady studios. “Not always having a reason to put music on the page, I’m always delighted when a recording session comes out as I’ve heard it in my head. I could not have asked more from our New York players, the string section sounding as rich and full as twice their number,” Costello said of the string session. “When I was a kid listening to Tamla and Philly recordings, like those produced by Thom Bell, I always imagined they were played by massive symphony orchestras in a cathedral-like space. I realize now that is what reverb is for.”
