Happy Birthday Jimmy Page: Performing Live Through The Decades

221

Accomplished rock guitarist Jimmy Page today celebrates his 75th birthday. Known for his contributions to rock ‘n’ roll through his playing with The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin, Page is regularly cited by fellow talented guitarists as an inspiration and source of early emulation.

In honor of the man behind some the most easily recognizable guitar riffs in rock history, below is a series of videos featuring Page performing throughout the decades. The collection begins with 1957 footage of a then 13-year-old Jimmy performing the skiffle tune “Mama Don’t Want to Skiffle Anymore” on the BBC show Huw Wheldon’s All Your Own. The next clip jumps 10 years into the future as Page can be seen performing “I’m A Man” with The Yardbirds in 1967. A scene from the standout Led Zeppelin live concert film The Song Remains the Same filmed in 1973 at Madison Square Garden in New York City showcases Page’s skills on “Black Dog.”

Page returned to MSG to join former Yardbirds Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton on the latter’s “Layla” all-star ARMS Charity Concerts organized by Ronnie Lane of Faces in 1983. The guitarist can be seen with his Led Zeppelin mate Robert Plant performing “Hey, Hey What Can I Do?” in Detroit in 1995. Page and Plant can also be seen in a clip from the 2007 DVD Celebration Day performing “Kashmir” at London’s O2 Arena with a Led Zeppelin lineup featuring bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham. The final clip features Page re-teaming with The Black Crowes (with whom he toured in 2000) for a rendition of “Shake Your Money Maker” at a show in London in 2011.
