City Winery Announces Gregg Allman Tribute Led By Scott Sharrard

155

New York City’s City Winery outpost has announced a special tribute to Gregg Allman, set to go down on Monday, June 24th. Scott Sharrard, the former lead guitarist and musical director of the Gregg Allman Band, will lead the tribute to the southern rock legend featuring the full original Gregg Allman Band lineup.

Sharrard has lined up up an all-star cast for the upcoming tribute, including bassist Brett Bass, keyboardist Peter Levin, drummers Steve Potts and Bobby Allende, with Jay Collins, Art Edmaiston, and Marc Franklin holding down the horn section. The performance is part of City Winery’s 10-year anniversary programming, “honoring the music of artists that are no longer with us who have helped create the unique experience City Winery is most famous for.” City Winery has a variety of other 10-year anniversary shows scheduled for the coming months, which will pay tribute to Prince, Leon Russell, Lou Reed, Richie Havens, Pete Seeger and more.

This May will mark two years since Gregg Allman’s passing. For decades, Allman was the center of the extended family affair that was the Allman Brothers Band. Following ABB’s last show in 2014, Allman spent as much time on the road with the Gregg Allman Band as possible, or as much as the doctors would allow–resulting in several heartbreaks and cancellations throughout 2016 as he continued to fight his battle with liver cancer. On May 27th, 2017, he took his last breath surrounded by family and friends in his Savannah home—marking the true end of the Allman Brothers Band, following the passing of drummer Butch Trucks.

City Winery notes that a percentage of the profits from the tribute show will also be donated The Allman Lehman Scholarship at Syracuse University.
