The National Expands 2019 Tour, Announces New Album And Short Film, ‘I Am Easy To Find’

145

The National have a busy spring ahead of them! On Tuesday, the popular rock band announced the forthcoming release of their eighth studio album, I Am Easy To Find, set for release on May 17th via 4AD.

The forthcoming album follows up the band’s 2017 Sleep Well Beast LP, and will also be accompanied by a short film under the same name, also due out on May 17th. The black-and-white film, directed by Mike Mills and stars Alicia Vikander, will feature music from the band and was even inspired by their new music. The film’s mischievous storyline will reportedly follow “playfully hostile siblings that love to steal from each other,” according to a statement shared with Tuesday’s announcement. Fans can watch the video below to see the film’s trailer, in addition to hearing some of the first bits of new music from the band.

Speaking of first bits of new music, the band also shared the opening track off of their forthcoming album on Tuesday, “You Had Your Soul With You”. The short new single glides along with melodic authority from start to finish, and showcases the band’s knack for mixing smooth rock themes with ambient sounds and edgy guitar licks. The song also features guest vocal work from Gail Ann Dorsey. Listen to “You Had Your Soul With You” below:

To add to Tuesday’s barrage of new material, The National also expanded their 2019 touring schedule to continue well into the summer, fall, and early winter months of 2020. Late last week, the band announced their plans for a brief run of shows in select North American and European cities, scheduled throughout the month of April. The band’s expanded touring schedule will now see them playing in cities across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the U.K., beginning on June 11th in Philadelphia and continuing through December 5th with a final show in Denmark. The band will be joined on their global trek by Courtney Barnett and Alvvays.

Tickets for the new batch of tour dates go on sale starting this Friday, March 8th here.
