Freekbass will issue a new studio album entitled All The Way This. All The Way That. via Color Red on May 31. The 10-track LP was recorded in Cincinnati and at Color Red Studios in Denver with co-producers Itaal Shur and Color Red founder Eddie Roberts.
“This album could have been recorded in 1972 and some of it in 2072,” Freekbass said. “The Funk is timeless to me, and that is what I always want to try to create, both live and in the studio. The combination of a producer like Eddie Roberts with his pedigree and Itaal Shur with his vision, makes for a very eclectic and hopefully, groundbreaking take on groove-based music.” Contributors include Sammi Garett of Turkuaz, keyboardist Sky White and drummer Rico Lewis.
The All The Way This side of the LP was tracked with Shur in Cincinnati and is said to embody “the vibes and rich history of the Ohio funk sound both Freek and Shur grew up with.” Freekbass teamed with Roberts to record the All The Way That side at Color Red’s Denver facility. “Recording half of the album in Cincinnati and half of the album in Denver was the perfect way to bridge the earth with the stars,” the bassist explained.
Expect the album to include a “healthy dose” of material from his “Freeky Friday” series of track premieres. A new song from the record is due each Friday in May leading up to release day.
