Brandi Carlile Covers Aretha Franklin With The War & Treaty At The Ryman

127

Brandi Carlile third of six concerts that make up her 2020 residency at The Ryman in Nashville featured guest appearances from The War And Treaty and Sheryl Crow. The War & Treaty joined Carlile and her band for an Aretha Franklin as part of Thursday’s concert.

Carlile has done a nice job of switching it up when it comes to setlists for the residency. Brandi has performed 30 different songs through the first four shows of the run. On Thursday, the Washington native started with staples “Hold Out Your Hand,” “Raise Hell,” “The Story,” “The Eye,” “The Mother” and her cover of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You.” The War & Treaty then emerged for Franklin’s 1967 single “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man.” Brandi last performed the song on August 30, 2019 as per Setlist.FM.

The Thursday set continued with Highwomen tracks “If She Ever Leaves Me” and “Redesigning Women” broken up by “Crowded Table.” Crow then came out to join Carlile on “Redemption Day,” a song from Sheryl’s self-titled 1996 album that she re-recorded for 2019’s Threads featuring a vocal track from the late Johnny Cash. Brandi closed her main set with “Pride & Joy” and encored with “Mainstream Kid,” “The Joke,” “Cannonball” and Party Of One.”
