Jack White was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night. Jack performed a White Stripes number along with the title track from his 2014 solo album, Lazaretto.
White was not originally slated to perform on SNL but filled in for Morgan Wallen who violated the show’s COVID-19 safety protocols. For his first performance, Jack got things started with a bit of his collaboration with Beyoncé, “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” before ripping through the White Stripes’ “Ball And Biscuit” from their 2003 album Elephant. White also threw in an all too appropriate nod to blues great Blind Willie Johnson with an interpolation of his “Jesus Is Coming,” a song Johnson wrote about the 1918 flu pandemic.
But White wasn’t done with the homages. On his second performance, “Lazaretto,” the guitarist paid tribute to Eddie Van Halen (who died earlier this week) by playing a guitar Eddie designed, and playing it quite well.
