Massachusetts-based rockers Dinosaur Jr. will release the 12-track studio album Sweep It Into Space through Jagjaguwar on April 23. The trio previewed the long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not by sharing new single “I Ran Away” featuring Kurt Vile on 12 string.
Dinosaur Jr. — consisting of guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph — began work in Fall 2019 on the album with Vile co-producing at Biquiteen in Amherst, Massachusetts. Barlow sings lead on two songs he wrote for Sweep It Into Space, while the rest of the tracks come from J Mascis.
Sweep It Into Space was originally set for release last year before the pandemic led the trio to delay dropping the LP. Mascis stepped up when sessions with Vile came to an early end. J Mascis revealed he “ended up just mimicking a few things he’d done. I was listening to a lot of Thin Lizzy, so I was trying to get some of that dueling twin lead sound,” as per a press release. “But the recording session was pretty well finished by the time things really hit the fan. When the lockdown happened in March, that meant I was on my own. But it was cool.”
