King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are up to their old, mysterious ways once again ahead of Timeland, the band’s upcoming music festival. The event is due to take place on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day at “our friends farm” in Tallarook, roughly an hour’s drive north of Melbourne, Australia.
The prolific psych-rockers heralded the arrival of a “New Gizz LP” in a photo posted to social media on Friday morning. The photo shows guitarist Stu Mackenzie with what appears to be a stack of fully-pressed and ready-to-ship albums complete with new art by the band’s longtime visual collaborator, Jason Galea.
The post’s caption offered the bare minimum information about the surprise LP. Along with an appropriate set of clock emojis, the band declared that a limited run of 2,000 “Flightless Silver Platter” edition vinyls were pressed, they will “probs never repress this record again,” and “everyone who comes to Timeland gets a copy on arrival (FOR FREE HAHAH).”
“What’s the album called?” the post asked innocently. “Not sure hehe… see you in the field baby.” The post ended with a hashtag that may hint at more details about the project: “#timelandiscursed”.
The comment section instantly lit up with questions, and the band hung around to answer a few of them. On the album’s cost, the group account quipped, “Thought about selling them for $4.20 but FREE feels more cool.”
In response to a question about how fans can listen if they can’t make the trip to Timeland, the band responded, “maybe from the states or Europe next year sometime. EGGS [sic].”
While much about the project remains a mystery (what else is new?), it’s exciting to know that another new King Gizzard record exists in the world. When will be able to hear it? That… is a great question. Check out the post below.

Timeland Festival is due to take place in Tallarook on December 31st, 2021 and January 1st, 2022. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will headline the festivities with four sets totaling six hours of music over the course of the weekend. In addition, the band has curated an eclectic mix of “old and new friends to perform at Timeland including Harvey Sutherland (Live), Grace Cummings & Her Band, Gordon Koang, Stonefield, Ajak Kwai, Mod Con, Nice Biscuit, Big Yawn, and E Bobby G.

As the band noted in a statement on the event, “It literally feels like a lifetime since we could even consider the possibility of a music and camping festival. It feels like 100,000 years has passed, but here we are. The universe has conspired and we can’t wait to welcome hoards of Gizzhead’s at our Friend’s Farm in Tallarook over New Years Eve and New Years Day. Stay up all night and get hot, sweaty, muddy, wet, weird and wild. We’re gonna play for 6 hours, Juicy’s got new visuals, Boogieman Sam has a new desk to engulf your ears and we’ve gathered together a lineup of artists we can’t stop listening to right now. Is this real life?!”
