Pigeons Playing Ping Pong has shared a pro-shot video chronicling the band’s live debut of “Hell Yeah”, the latest song added to its growing catalog. The performance came on February 10th at The Intersection in Grand Rapids, MI.
During the first set of the evening, PPPP delivered originals like “Sail On”, “Havana”, “Melting Lights”, “Offshoot”, “Sorcerer”, and “Julia”. This first frame also included a sit-in from TAUK‘s Alric “A.C.” Carter (keys) and Matt Jalbert (guitar) for a cover of Jimi Hendrix‘s “Fire” before a segue-laden second half.
The band’s latest debut came in the two-hole of set two, following an aquatic telling of “Water”. “Hell Yeah” arrived dripping in psychedelia thanks to some wah and delay-infused rhythm guitar from Greg Ormont and sprawling lead melodies from Jeremy Schon.

The song is pushed forward by a headstrong rhythm section courtesy of Ben Carrey (bass) and Alex “Gator” Petropulos (drums), steadily building during the offering in a way not dissimilar to “Sir real”—which will appear on the band’s forthcoming album, Perspective, on April 8th. Ormont’s uplifting lyricism pairs well with the psychedelic instrumentation and carries the song through its 4:52 runtime, leaving the listener wanting more. While this take on “Hell Yeah” was short, it will be interesting to see how the band decides to work it into future setlists and whether or not an elongated version is a possibility in the future.
