Connecticut-based jam-rock quartet Eggy has shared a pro-shot video of its debut of Phil Collins‘ 1985 No Jacket Required hit, “Sussudio”. The performance came on February 5th at Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground, and featured Dopapod‘s Neal “Fro” Evans on drums.
This debut of “Sussudio” came toward the end of Eggy’s opening set amid the band’s winter tour in support of Dopapod. Immediately after one of their older originals, “Cicada Sings”, members Jake Brownstein (guitar), Michael Goodman (bass), Dani Battat (keys), and Alex Bailey (drums), welcomed Fro to the stage. With Fro sitting behind his kit, it was Bailey who handled the lead vocals on the cover. Goodman and Evans linked up on a brisk groove to open the song before Battat added the signature synth lines atop Brownstein’s rhythm guitar.
Bailey’s showmanship took center stage as he worked the microphone and stage throughout the serene telling. After sending the song off into a concise instrumental section, he added some percussion to the mix and danced alongside his fellow band members while Brownstein helmed the steering wheel during the jam. Jake and Fro locked in and lifted the segment to a cascading peak which brought Bailey back center stage. As “Sussudio” neared its end, Bailey got some help from the crowd, compelling them to sing the titular lyrics.
