Aaron Rodgers will remain in Green Bay to quarterback the Packers, according to reports.
The reigning NFL MVP has signed a deal, but the details are still being debated. CBS Sports reports a four-year, $200 million extension that will make Rodgers the highest paid player in NFL with a $50 million average annual salary.
However, when NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted the terms of the deal, he was contested by Pat McAfee.
“This is false,” said McAfee, who hosts Rodgers regularly on The Pat McAfee Show.
News of the Green Bay deal comes after Rodgers spawned retirement rumors with a cryptic Instagram post that some read as a career’s end reflection.
“I feel like I’m at the place relationally with the Packers — in a really good place, especially with Brian and the way our friendship and trust has grown,” Rodgers told McAfee in January,” per the New York Post.
“Brian and I have had good conversations throughout the year, and when it comes time to make a decision, we’ll have a conversation and that’ll be that. It won’t be a long, drawn-out process.”
Rodgers won his fourth MVP award in the 2020-2021 season, putting him behind only Peyton Manning for the most in NFL history at five. He completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns, but threw only four interceptions.
He led the NFL in touchdown percentage (7.0), interception percentage (.8) and passer rating (111.9), CBS Sports reports.
