Following the death of The Specials singer Terry Hall earlier this week, The String Cheese Incident has shared a pro-shot video from Suwannee Hulaween 2022 in his honor.
The new live video was pulled from The String Cheese Incident’s annual Saturday evening spectacle at Hulaween 2022, during which the band members dressed in their best Beetlejuice garb for an undead dance party loaded with spooky covers like Talking Heads‘ “Psycho Killer”, “Time Warp” from Rocky Horror Picture Show, Oingo Boingo‘s “Dead Man’s Party”, and more. In a brief description for the video, SCI percussionist Jason Hann noted that Terry Hall was a “huge U.K. musical influence as the singer for The Specials and Fun Boy Three, revitalizing the ska rude boy movement in the ’70s in London and combining it with the punk scene that included bands like Madness, The Beat, [and] The Selecter and influenced American ska punk funk bands like Fishbone. Glad we were finally able to do The Specials’ ‘Ghost Town’ this past Hulaween.”

Hann went on to note that ska music appreciation is a frequent topic at The String Cheese Incident rehearsals, “whether it’s Toots and the Maytals from the ’60s, [its] revitalized cousin in the form of The Specials or Madness from the ’70s, or The Untouchables from the ’80s.”
