Karina Rykman has a busy week ahead of her next week with a pair of “late night” engagements some 1,300 miles apart. First, the bassist/guitarist/bandleader will spend Monday, May 1st through Thursday, May, 4th performing for national TV audiences when she fills in for The 8G Band‘s Seth Jabour on guitar on NBC‘s Late Night with Seth Meyers. The day after she wraps her latest extended stint on Late Night in New York City, Karina will take the stage in New Orleans, LA with her eponymous trio for a late-night show of her own at Blue Nile on Saturday, May 5th.
Karina has played with The 8G Band on Late Night with Seth Meyers on multiple occasions—and on multiple instruments. In September 2022, she served as the substitute bassist in the band for three episodes, and in November 2022, she came out of self-described “guitar retirement” to stand in with the band on six strings—just in time for Tracy Morgan to try to buy her childhood guitar on the air.
While her busy week may seem daunting to some, Rykman seems invigorated by the hectic itinerary. As she told Live For Live Music in a brief statement, “LATE NIGHT TO LATE NIGHT BABY LFG.”
