See Marco Benevento Trio Featuring Reed Mathis & Andrew Barr Reunite At JamBase’s As Summer Into Autumn Slips

38

The original Marco Benevento Trio lineup consisting of Benevento on keys joined by bassist Reed Mathis and drummer Andrew Barr played their first set in over a decade last October to close opening night of JamBase’s As Summer Into Autumn Slips event. High-quality video featuring soundboard matrix audio of Marco Benevento Trio’s performance was recently posted on YouTube by videographer Clinton “Cleantones” Vadnais.

The two-night live music experience presented by JamBase took place on October 7 and 8, 2022 at Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, Massachusetts. Marco Benevento Trio capped the action on October 7, 2022 after sets from William Tyler and Club d’Elf. The Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey OG Trio (Mathis, keyboardist Brian Haas and drummer Jason Smart) reunited for their first East Coast performance since 2007 to end the second night of As Summer Into Autumn Slips on October 8, 2022 following sets by WOLF! featuring Scott Metzger and William Tyler.

Marco Benevento enlisted Reed Mathis and Andrew Barr as his band from 2007 through 2011. Barr and Mathis contributed to the keyboardist’s first four solo studio albums: 2008’s Invisible Baby, 2009’s Me Not Me, 2010’s Between The Needles & Nightfall and 2012’s TigerFace. Each was made before Benevento started writing lyrics and adding vocals to his music.

The three-piece focused on cuts from Invisible Baby for their 135-minute As Summer Into Autumn Slips set. “Atari,” “Bus Ride,” “You Must A Lion,” “The Real Morning Party,” “Record Book” and “Are You The Favorite Person Of Anybody?” were all played from Benevento’s debut solo studio album. The Marco Benevento Trio also weaved in “RISD” and “Greenpoint” from Between The Needles & Nightfall as well as a medley connecting Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” and “Bennie And The Jets” by Elton John.

Marco kept his old pals on their toes for the evening’s encore. Benevento taught them “At The Show” from 2014’s Swift, the first album he made without Mathis and Barr, on the fly. Reed and Andrew quickly followed along making for a fun and exciting end to the show.
