Watch Previously Unreleased Pearl Jam Video From Infamous ‘Give Way’ Melbourne Concert In 1998

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 22, Pearl Jam will release the live album Give Way as a Record Store Day exclusive. Give Way features 17 tracks from the band’s March 5, 1998 concert at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. Official video of “Do The Evolution” from the show has been posted on YouTube and can be viewed below.

Pearl Jam initially intended to issue Give Way on CD for free in August of 1998 to fans who purchased the documentary Single Video Theory at Best Buy. “At the last minute, Pearl Jam’s label Epic Records halted the release for unspecified reasons, prompting the destruction of nearly all of the 50,000 CD copies that had been pressed,” explained Spin’s Jonathan Cohen. Give Way will be available for purchase tomorrow on CD and gatefold black double vinyl at select independent record stores.

The show in Melbourne came as part of an Australian tour in support of Yield, a studio album that arrived on February 3, 1998. Drummer Jack Irons was behind the kit for his final tour with Pearl Jam. Matt Cameron would take his place starting one month later and has remained in the position ever since.

“Do The Evolution” was among 13 songs featured on Yield. Six were played by Pearl Jam in Melbourne on March 5, 1998 with five included on Give Way, an LP that takes its title from the Australian counterpart to the United States’ yield sign. Pearl Jam unveiled official “Do The Evolution” video from Melbourne earlier this month exclusively for Ten Club members. The footage was shared on YouTube today.
