All IN Music Festival returned to Indianapolis, IN this past Saturday and Sunday for its sophomore outing at the Indiana State Fairgrounds featuring performances by Trey Anastasio & Classic TAB, Tenacious D, Umphrey’s McGee featuring Jason Bonham, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Greensky Bluegrass, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Cory Wong, and many more.
The two-day 2023 event welcomed twice the number of attendees as it did in its maiden year in 2022—with many thousands more tuning in via a livestream on nugs.net—for a highlight-filled weekend featuring some of the most talented musicians on the road. Performances were split between the indoor, air-conditioned Indiana Farmers Coliseum and the outdoor Main Street Stage behind it, giving attendees the opportunity to enjoy the ambiance of both arena shows and classic outdoor summer festival sets throughout the weekend.
On Saturday, September 9th, fans at All IN Music Festival were treated to performances by Malingo (with special guest Mikial Robertson), Karina Rykman, Stardust Social Club (with special guest Mikial Robertson), Cory Wong, Eggy, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Tenacious D, Andy Frasco & The U.N., and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead.
On Sunday, Trey Anastasio & Classic TAB anchored a lineup featuring Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Neighbor, Greensky Bluegrass, Hyryder, The Main Squeeze, Dizgo (with special guest Maximillion of The Main Squeeze), Quinn Sullivan, and Pushing Daisy’s Band (with special guest Rob Dixon).
One of All IN Music Festival’s defining characteristics is its inclusion of collaborative “Dreamsets,” which bring together one-off collaborations honoring the music of legendary artists. On Saturday, The Beatles Dreamset, led by a gang of staple local musicians, celebrated history by recreating the full setlist from the Fab Four’s performance at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in 1964 with help from Cory Wong, Andy Frasco and Shawn Eckels (Andy Frasco & The U.N.), Karina Rykman, members of Eggy and The Main Squeeze, and more. On Sunday, Umphrey’s McGee joined forces with drummer Jason Bonham and his resident vocalist, James Dylan, for a Led Zeppelin Dreamset. The band also welcomed members of Greensky Bluegrass to help out on renditions of “Going to California” and “Hey, Hey What Can I Do”.
The All IN collaborative energy didn’t stop with the Dreamsets, either. On Saturday, Cory Wong and Trombone Shorty traded sit-ins during their sets, while Quinn Sullivan popped up with The Main Squeeze to trade licks with Max Newman on Allman Brothers Band classic “Whipping Post”.
