Watch Eggy Deliver Adventurous Steely Dan Cover In San Francisco

Eggy made their San Francisco headlining debut last Friday, September 15 at The Independent. The on-the-rise Connecticut-based quartet shared official video of an expansive cover of Steely Dan‘s “Green Earrings” from their concert at The Independent.

“Green Earrings” was written by Steely Dan co-founders Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. A studio version appears on Steely Dan’s 1976 album, The Royal Scam.

Eggy’s first documented take on “Green Earrings” came on April 11, 2015 at The Acoustic in Bridgeport, Connecticut as per stats on fansite The Carton. The quartet’s previous version before Friday night took place in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on October 27, 2021.

Keyboardist Dani Battat handled lead vocals on Eggy’s 20-minute “Green Earrings” cover at The Independent. Guitarist Jake Brownstein let it rip throughout the well-jammed rendition in which Eggy explored disco, jamtronica and funk motifs. Battat moved between synth, organ and Clavinet over the course of the lengthy “Green Earrings,” while the rhythm section of drummer Alex Bailey and bassist Mike Goodman held down the groove.
