Jacob Collier continues his rollout of Djesse Vol. 4 today with the release of “Wherever I Go”, an uplifting anthem featuring the sibling soul-pop duo of Clyde Lawrence and Gracie Lawrence that blends their own harmonious inclinations with Michael McDonald-like lyrics and pocket rhythms. The McDonald vibes were so strong, in fact, that Collier later recruited the Doobie Brother to sing on the track himself.

Heavenly harmony—a forte for both Collier and Clyde and Gracie’s band, Lawrence—elevates the track throughout, mingling with joyful horns, impressive bass grooves, and a plodding, Doobies-style piano progression to hit the center of the Collier-Lawrence-McDonald Venn diagram like a bullseye.

“Jacob Collier is one of contemporary music’s most innovative artists,” said Michael McDonald in a statement on the collaboration. “It was nothing short of a thrill for me to be invited to participate on the recording of his original song. It was an opportunity to witness Jacob’s unique genius up close and the chance to perform again, (this time virtually), with Clyde and Gracie Lawrence. Two very talented recording artists in their own right.” Watch a behind-the-scenes clip about how the collaboration came together below.

Since Collier launched the series five years ago, Djesse has earned him three Grammy Awards and six nominations including Album of The Year for 2020’s Djesse Vol. 3. That’s more than half of the young artist’s five Grammy wins and 11 nominations. Each album has a distinct character, which Collier likens to the different phases of the day. Due out February 29th on Hajanga/Decca/Interscope, Vol. 4 represents the incandescent light of dawn with sweeping orchestral arrangements, intimate folk songwriting, fusions of R&B, rap, and pop, and roughly 150,000 voices, including 80+ audience choirs that he conducted and recorded during his live concerts. The album will also feature recent single “WELLLL” and the previously released single “Never Gonna Be Alone” featuring Lizzy McAlpine and John Mayer.

Collier recently announced an 31-date 2024 tour, his biggest to date, featuring stops and notable venues around North America. For details on the tour, head here. Lawrence is also in the midst of a large-scale tour opening for The Jonas Brothers at major stadiums throughout the country. For a list of upcoming Lawrence tour dates, head here.
