The Infamous Stringdusters have shared a new single, “Toward the Fray”, the title track for the band’s forthcoming album, due out on February 18th, via Regime Music Group.
Toward the Fray, which The Infamous Stringdusters announced just before the International Bluegrass Music Association Conference late last month, marks the first studio album of all original material for the band since 2019’s Rise Sun.

“Sometimes the times call for some serious reflection, and these songs really hit home,” said Andy Hall (dobro) in a press release. He continued, “Get ready to go deep with us!”
If the title track is any indication of where this album plans to go, Hall didn’t overstate his sentiment. “Toward the Fray” is a chilling tune that carries a consequential sentiment. The song describes an apocalyptic world where death lurks around every corner and freedom, justice, and peace remain just a fluttering belief of what should be. It describes burning cities and lawlessness, while convincing the listener that “There is no other way/ To love, except to turn/ Our timid souls toward the fray.”
“‘Toward the Fray’ is an important song for me,” said guitarist Andy Falco in a press release. “Not only in the subject matter, but it turned out to be the last song I wrote with my dear friend and writing partner Travis McKeveny who passed away tragically in September 2021. We were both very proud of how this song turned out, which was cut live in the studio in 2020.”
