moe. celebrated New Year’s Eve with a concert at The Fillmore Philadelphia that was special for many reasons, most importantly the triumphant return of guitarist Chuck Garvey, who joined his longtime bandmates onstage for the first time following a stroke in November 2021. The band that formed in Buffalo, New York in 1990, posted pro-shot video of their cover of “Gonna Fly Now,” which was played in the early minutes of 2023.
Keyboardist Nate Wilson and guitarist Suke Cerulo, who have augmented moe. while Garvey recovered from the stroke, were also onstage for the NYE show. Also accompanying moe. was The Horn Section – former Turkuaz trumpeter Chris Brouwers, tenor saxophonist Greg Sanderson and baritone saxophonist Josh Schwartz.

moe. Guitarist Chuck Garvey Makes Triumphant Return On New Year’s Eve In Philadelphia
moe. rang in 2023 with a New Year’s Eve concert at The Fillmore Philadelphia featuring the return of Chuck Garvey in his first performance since suffering a stroke.
Garvey, guitarist Al Schnier, bassist Rob Derhak, percussionist Jim Loughlin and drummer Vinnie Amico and the guest musicians led into the countdown to midnight by busting out a cover of Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon.” After the clock struck 12 a.m. and the New Year was celebrated with a balloon drop, the band dropped into “Gonna Fly Now,” fitting for many reasons, including being the theme to Rocky which was famously set in Philadelphia.
With a troupe of costumed dancers joining the festivities, watch moe. ring in 2023 with “Gonna Fly Now” via the officially shared video below:
