The Odd Times are upon us, with the lespecial tour in support of the band’s new album in full effect. An early November swing through the Southeast brought the progtronic power trio to familiar stops in North and South Carolina and Georgia.

Following a haunting late-night Spirit Lake set at Suwannee Hulaween, lespecial kicked off its Odd Times Tour 2023 in earnest at Charlotte, NC’s Visulite Theatre on Thursday, November 9th. This first leg of the tour featured support from rising Florida progressive jam outfit Tand, with Atlanta’s Potch joining in to fill out a three-act musical marathon in select stops.

With the addition of the nine new heavy-hitting tracks on Odd Times, lespecial has vastly expanded its live repertoire. Further bolstering the songbook, the band recently took Ancient Homies track “Boundary Dissolution” off the shelf for the first time in half a decade, busting it out during the band’s buzzworthy Hula set. This was evidently not a one-off fling, as the rarity has continued to show up in live setlists including the second show of the tour at Asheville, NC’s Salvage Station on the 10th. Despite those original additions to the playbook, lespecial still took time to honor its influences with a mashup of Metallica‘s “Master of Puppets” and Primus‘ “Too Many Puppies” (aka “Master of Puppies”) at Terminal West the next night in Atlanta.

lespecial had another cover planned when the group played at South Carolina’s Charleston Pour House to close out the first leg of the tour on Saturday the 11th. Umphrey’s McGee bassist/Charleston local/longtime lespecial supporter Ryan Stasik joined the band for a cover of Pantera‘s “Walk” in celebration of his birthday, which was the following day.

The Odd Times Tour 2023 resumes November 29th at The Summit Music Hall in Columbus, OH. For tickets and a full list of tour dates visit lespecial’s website.
